Does anybody know of a composting system that can collect the stuff from a garboage disposal?

and put it directly into a compost bin? I once saw a house where the compost was put directly into a shute which went directly into the backyard compost bin. I find garbarge disposals an easy way to get rid of waste and keep the sink from getting clogged up. It would be nice if there was a combo system. Anyone know of one?

Disposals add too much water, you’d still have to add a bulking agent, and the more water the more bulk you’d need. But why bother? The disposal sends the stuff down the drain, and it is seperated downstream and digested. It’s not ideal, but it’s still way better than throwing it in the trash.

If you *really* wanted to do this, and had money to burn, you could build your own anerobic digester and route the disposal to it. This would be neither easy to do or cheap.

I try to never put anything into my garbage disposal. Remeber anything that goes down the drain has to be removed when it goes to the water treatment facility.

It’s better to put a green waste bucket under your sink and toss your scraps into it. Most compost systems recommend not to put anything that has been contaminated by oil or meat.

I have a small worm farm in my kitchen that I feed all my kitchen green waste to. I put a link to the how to video.

No I don’t but everything unless its meat or oil I place in a container like an empty coffee can with a lid. Then I toss the contents onto the compost pile. Coffee grounds included

Wow, would it take all that much more energy to walk into your backyard carrying the food and just throw it into your compost pile? It would waste more energy to put it through your garbage disposal first anyway.
