I bought a large plastic tub, filled it with layers of soil, banana peels, crunched-up egg shells, coffee grounds and then more soil. I then added four dozen worms, waited for them to hide beneath the soil, and then gently added yet more soil to the top. I’m planting a Roma tomato plant for the winter months (as I hate eating cardboard tomatoes during the off season!) in the middle of it, and have installed a Gro-Lite to hang over the whole contraption, in the hopes of having good soil for the plants and effective composting for my kitchen waste….and happy worms.

I am considering purchasing worms for composting my kitchen waste. As it is expensive to buy the start up kit I wondered if anyone had ever done this, and if so what was the final result good, or a waste of money. The problem is, that it looks a good idea on the internet sites.
